If a sprinkler system stops working after freezing weather, start by looking for visible leaks, cracked above-ground components and zones that no longer build normal pressure. Freeze damage does not always appear immediately. A split fitting or damaged backflow/supply component may become obvious only when the irrigation water is turned back on.
Common signs of freeze damage
Watch for water spraying or dripping near the irrigation supply, unusually wet soil, a zone with very low pressure, heads that will not rise, or a system that loses pressure as soon as it runs.
Why diagnosis matters
A weak zone after a freeze is not automatically a broken pipe. A valve problem, supply restriction or damaged component can create similar symptoms. A spring sprinkler start-up that tests the system zone by zone can help isolate freeze-related failures before excavation or parts replacement.
Backflow and irrigation-supply repairs
Fort Mill Irrigation performs backflow and irrigation-supply repair when sprinkler-system components are damaged or leaking. We do not advertise backflow certification testing.
Preventing the same problem next winter
Professional sprinkler winterization reduces the amount of trapped water left in vulnerable irrigation components before freezing weather.
